On June 5 Downtown’s SoFA District Celebrates Techno Bent, Indie Creative Spirit
ZER01, organizers of 01SJ Biennial, and its partner South FIRST FRIDAYS today announced the second iteration of the street festival SubZERO on June 5 from 6pm to midnight. Originated during the 2008 01SJ Biennial, and coinciding with South First FRIDAY’s, SubZERO offers attendees two stages of entertainment and 100 artists, performers, and musicians on site as they celebrate the indie creative spirit. Festivities will take place in the SoFA District between San Carlos and Reed Streets in downtown San Jose.
At SubZERO, visitors will be able to test-drive a custom low-rider bike, try their hands at stop motion, bear witness to urban yarn-bombing, travel back to the future for a nineties-look at cyber fashion, watch a little subversive TV, listen up for spontaneous acts of percussion, and much more. In addition to the creativity rampant on the street and stages, SoFA galleries will showcase exhibitions that complement the revelries outside. Participating galleries include: Anno Domini, MACLA/Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, San Jose Museum of Quilts + Textiles, and works/san jose.
