Chairman: Team San Jose

One of Silicon Valley’s top executives and a true visionary, Dan Fenton has been a driving force behind San Jose’s tourism industry for the past eleven years. Having joined the SJCVB in 1996, Fenton has since guided the organizations through unprecedented growth, market diversification, and a shifting economic climate. Under his leadership, San Jose’s service delivery model is the first of its kind in the nation.

Mr. Fenton’s interest in developing San Jose’s unique attributes as a creative urban community is evident from his participation in several arts and culture organizations. Fenton’s ability to leverage strategic partnerships within the arts community led to the 2002 debut of Artsopolis.com, Silicon Valley’s online guide to news and events in the arts & culture scene. As past Vice-Chair of the board of directors for the Mexican Heritage Corporation, Fenton was instrumental in establishing this cultural asset as an important partner to San Jose’s diverse community. In his role as a board member of the Arts Roundtable, Fenton advocates for additional support and resources for the arts based on the industry’s vital contributions to San Jose’s local economy.

Another top priority for Fenton is to work with city officials to develop recommendations for the city’s taxicab service, which plays a key role in the tourism industry. As Chairman of Taxi San Jose, Fenton has been influential in creating policy changes to encourage competition, create choice, establish a customer service/training program, improve services and emphasize taxi industry responsibility.

Fenton’s professional affiliations include membership in the Professional Convention Management Association, California Society of Association Executives, American Society of Association Executives, Meeting Professionals International, Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International and serving as Board of Director and Executive Committee member for Destination Marketing Association International.

Fenton plays a key role in developing future leaders in the hospitality industry through his involvement with San Jose State University’s Hospitality Program. Fenton is a founding member of the program and has continued on the Executive Advisory Board to help secure corporate support and increase student enrollment and capabilities.

Mr. Fenton vast community commitments demonstrate his deep roots in the San Jose/Silicon Valley area. Fenton’s involvement with the Rotary Club of San Jose, United Way Silicon Valley, the San Jose Education Foundation, Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network and the San Jose Sports Authority indicates his belief in continuing to make San Jose a great place to live, work and visit.

Fenton graduated with distinction from Cornell University and is a Trustee of his high school alma mater, the York School in Monterey, where he works on maintaining a tradition of diversity.
