Victor E. Friedberg

Victor Friedberg has been a creative executive at the intersection of technology, commerce and culture for 20 years. At present, Victor is Executive Director of LAUNCH a global initiative to identify and support innovative and disruptive work poised to contribute to a sustainable future. LAUNCH searches, showcases, supports and evangelizes innovative ideas, companies, programs and technologies focused on sustainability challenges. The Founding Partner is NASA who seeks to leverage its culture, technology, and people to contribute to sustaining the home planet. Other Founding Partners include USAID, US State Department and NIKE. The first module LAUNCH: Water will take place at Kennedy Space Center, March 16-18 and will feature 10 innovative/disruptive ideas in water sustainability. Other modules — food, air, energy, mobility and sustainable cities will follow.

From 2002 to 2009, Victor served as the founding Executive Director of WIRED NextFest, the premier global showcase of innovation produced annually by WIRED Magazine. Victor was responsible for the development of NextFest setting the overall vision and execution strategy. In addition to his leadership role in the organization, he served as the curator and creative director for NextFest identifying the themes, trends, and visionaries to be showcased. As a result he built a global network of artists, designers, inventors, and scientists that are at the forefront of innovation.

In 2008, Victor established Big Idea Group, Inc to provide companies with unique and compelling strategic services which include the development and execution of custom communications and marketing platforms, Innovation/trend consulting and business development and Partnerships. Clients include, NASA, City of Chicago, World Business Chicago, HP and the Museum of Science and Industry.

Prior to his position at WIRED and founding Big Idea Group, Victor was the founder and Creative Director of wireless start-up Talking Drum, whose KODE brand was a predecessor of Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile. During this time, 1996-2001 Victor was regarded as the leading youth wireless expert in the United States specifically in regards to MVNO’s (Mobile Virtual Network Operators). For the KODE brand, Victor was responsible for creative application development, brand strategy, and management of the marketing executives and creative teams for marketing and advertising.
