ZERO1 holds space in China at thingworld: International Triennial of New Media Art

It has been exciting to participate in thingworld: International Triennial of New Media Art 2014, at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing.  As the third edition, “thingworld: International Triennial of New Media Art 2014” follows the internationally acclaimed Olympic Cultural Project “Synthetic Times: Media Art China 2008” and “transLife: International Triennial of New Media Art”, which was officially instituted as a triennial of new media art at the National Art Museum of China in 2011. It has been an honor for ZERO1 to participate not only in bringing amazing art to the Triennial through artists Karolina Sobecka and Chris Baker, but also help shape and define the formation of the Triennial as our ED was on the advisory committee.

Time to BRING IT!

This summer, through the generous support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, we’re handing over the ZERO1 Garage to innovative performance artists who are pushing the boundaries of digital culture. Six projects will be selected to be part of the BRING IT! Performance Art Series, taking place at the ZERO1 Garage between June 20 and September 5, 2014. Selected artists will receive $500 in project support, and artists outside the San Francisco Bay Area have the opportunity to apply for additional travel grants. Apply today to participate in the BRING IT! Performance Art Series.

We are looking for proposals for event-based performance art, including, but not limited to, live performance, telematic performance, dance, live cinema, virtual/gaming work, immersive installation, multidisciplinary collaborations, audiovisual performance, and more. We support experimentation and risk-taking, so BRING IT!

Apply now for the American Arts Incubator Program!

ZERO1 is calling innovative digital and mural artists with a passion for community-driven art and an interest in international travel to apply to participate in the American Arts Incubator. American Arts Incubator is an international arts exchange program being developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). The program sends artists abroad to collaborate with youth and underserved populations on community-based new media and mural art projects that bolster local economies, address a local social issue, and further social innovation. Artists will be working directly with ZERO1, U.S. embassy officials, and overseas partners to realize a series of public art projects that cultivate individual and community engagement and citizenship internationally.

ZERO1 Fellowship/x

Just over a year ago, we gathered at the ZERO1 Garage to meet the first class of ZERO1 Fellows. They dove headfirst into their innovation challenges - researching, inventing, experimenting, prototyping - and now the moment has arrived. On January 22, 2014, come discover the ZERO1 Fellows' unique responses to their respective innovation challenges and engage in a rare opportunity to learn about the inaugural class of ZERO1 Fellows' experiences over the past year. From a cooperative urban experience and a new messaging app, to a web platform facilitating social practice art and an unveiled presence of public network connections, ZERO1 is proud to present the results of these Fellows' year-long journeys.
