Open Call for 'Platform' Project

Application Deadline is February 13, 2012

ZERO1 is commissioning an open call with Northern Spark, a free, dusk to dawn, participatory arts festival that presents visual arts, performance, films, and interactive media indoors and outdoors in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. For this call, we are looking to co-commission a nighttime public art project that would work within the dynamic contexts of both Northern Spark and the ZERO1 Biennial. By “platform” project, we mean a temporary project that will include the creation of a re-deployable platform for activation within the city infrastructure that has the potential be reused for future project. The theme of Northern Spark in 2012 is “Think and Wonder” and the theme of the 2012 ZERO1 Biennial is “Seeking Silicon Valley.”

Call for Wayfinding Artist/Designer

ZERO1 is looking for a creative artist or artist team to design our wayfinding signage for the 2012 ZERO1 Biennial. We are seeking qualifications for an innovative solution! The 2012 Biennial will be a regional-wide event spanning San Jose, San Francisco and the East Bay. The signage and wayfinding system will need to display ZERO1’s brand creatively, and also to be useable/adapted in different sizes, for different locations, while integrating technology, where possible, in order to be interactive.

We are looking for someone who has:
• Experience designing larger-scale graphics; knowledgeable about physical production
• Capable of translating the Biennial brand into the design
• Open to exploring innovative options but sensitive to a nonprofit’s budget constraints
• Available to see the project from design through execution and make changes as needed
• Engaged/inspired by contemporary art and artists

Get Lucky will run until January 26th with a closing reception panel.

ZERO1 Fiscal Sponsors of the Bay Lights Project

ZERO1 is please to announce that we are the official fiscal sponsors of Bay Lights. The Bay Lights is an iconic light sculpture designed by internationally renowned artist Leo Villareal. Similar to the ambitious lighting of the Eiffel Tower for its 100th anniversary, it will commemorate the Bay Bridge’s 75th Diamond Anniversary – at 7x the scale of the famous Parisian landmark – by installing 25,000 LED lights onto the bridges’ cables, networked to create a spectacular, animated array across the West Span. This installation will live for two years, providing a stunning fine arts experience for the entire Bay Area and its visitors with the goal of illuminating the arts both locally and globally. Check out what is being said about the project through Bay Area News Group. We are excited to be a part of The Bay Lights.
