“The Uncertainty of Rain” is a hybrid exhibition of project prototypes developed by participants during the
Creative Impact Lab Amman cultural exchange. The works use sculpture, video, and projection mapping to speculate on the future of water and adaptation to the effects of climate change in Jordan in the broader region. Participant projects are inspired by artistic, scientific, and site-responsive research. They were created in the
IDare C-Hub makerspace using digital fabrication and media arts practices. Reflecting on a range of ideas, the projects illustrate possible solutions to water scarcity inspired by contemporary and historical water preservation practices, highlight the relationship between humans and marine species, and make connections between human bodies and the Earth.
Three key research experiences inspired these works. Aline Bussman, co-director at
cewas Middle East engaged our cohort in an activity focusing on the challenges and opportunities facing Jordan’s stressed water system. At
Darat al Funun we were guided through the exhibition ‘Re-rooting’ by Program Coordinator Ahmad Ameen. “‘Re-rooting’ is a group exhibition of projects that highlight interventions, dialogues, and reflections, conducted at a local scale, that subvert and transform systems and pre-conditioned understandings of the three most pressing concerns in Jordan today; water politics, agro-ecology, and extractive building practices.” Our workshop concluded with a field visit to
Wadi Mujib where participants engaged in embodied research on the landscape experiencing one of Jordan’s most culturally significant rivers.
Participants learned new skills in sculptural fabrication and media arts at the C-Hub makerspace. Incorporating video footage from smart phones and personal cameras, we created video experiments. We also created sculptural works using a CNC (computer numerical controlled) laser cutter to cut out MDF (medium density fiberboard) that acted as projection surfaces. Finally, we brought the two together and learned MadMapper, a projection mapping software. Through the assemblage of research practices and media arts experiments, we integrated content, concept, and form.
These project prototypes offer glimpses of hope for the future of water. They suggest that we can build worlds for ourselves and other species by looking critically at the systems with which we are engaged, and proposing moments, processes, and ideas that improve these conditions. They offer art as an antidote to the status quo of our ecological realities, and generate slight but significant ruptures in cultural consciousness around natural resources.
"هواجس المطر" هو معرض مدمج لنماذج أولية لمشاريع تم تطويرها من قبل المشاركين في التبادل الثقافي لمعمل الأثر الإبداعي في عمان. والتي تم فيها استخدام لطرق النحت والفيديو ورسم الخرائط المسقطة من أجل التكهن بمستقبل المياه والتكيف مع آثار تغير المناخ في الأردن وفي المنطقة بشكل عام. كانت مشاريع المشاركين مستوحاة من البحوث الفنية والعلمية المتجاوبة مع البيئة المحلية. تم استعراض المشاريع الفنية في مساحة السي هب الإبداعية والتي اشتملت على استخدام التصنيع الرقمي ووسائط فنية متعددة. عند النظر إلى مجموعة أفكار المشاريع التي عمل على تصميمها وتنفيذها الشباب، نرى أنها تطرقت إلى توضيح لبعض الحلول الممكنة لشح المياه مستوحاة من الممارسات المعاصرة والتاريخية للحفاظ على المياه وتسليط الضوء على العلاقة بين الإنسان والحياة البحرية، وإقامة روابط بين الإنسان والأرض
ثلاث تجارب بحثية رئيسية ألهمت هذه المشاريع؛ شاركت ألين بوسمان وهي المديرة المشاركة لدى مؤسسة سيواس الشرق الأوسط المشاركين في ورشة عمل ركزت على التحديات والفرص التي تواجه نظام المياه المجهدة في الأردن. أيضا، من خلال زيارتنا لدارة الفنون، تم إرشادنا خلال معرض "إعادة التجذير" بواسطة منسق المعرض الفني أحمد أمين. تحدث المعرض الجماعي" عن أفكار المشاريع التي تسلط الضوء على التدخلات والحوارات والأفكار التي تُجرى على نطاق محلي، والتي تزعج وتحول الأنظمة والتفاهمات المشروطة مسبقًا للمخاوف الثلاثة الأكثر إلحاحًا في الأردن حاليا حول سياسات المياه، وعلم البيئة الزراعية وممارسات البناء الاستخراجية". كما واختتمت ورشة العمل بزيارة ميدانية إلى وادي الموجب حيث شارك المشاركون في بحث متجسد حول المناظر الطبيعية التي تشهد أحد أكثر أنهار الأردن أهمية ثقافيًا.
خلال ورشة العمل، تعلم المشاركون مهارات جديدة في صناعة النحت وفنون الإعلام في مساحة السي هب للإبتكار عن طريق دمج لقطات فيديو من الهواتف الذكية والكاميرات الشخصية لإنشاء فيديوهات قصيرة تعكس تجارب محددة. كما قمنا أيضًا بإنشاء أعمال نحتية باستخدام ألة قطع الليزر (ماكينة قص يتم التحكم بها بالكمبيوتر) لقطع خشب الإم دي أف (لوح ألياف متوسطة الكثافة) حيث تم استخدمها كسطح مسقط عليه الفيديو، ومن ثم قمنا بجمع كلاهما وأكملنا الرحلة التعليمية في برنامج الماد مابر وهو برنامج لرسم الخرائط المسقطة. ومن خلال تجميع التطبيقات البحثية وتجارب الفيديو المصورة، قمنا بدمج المحتوى والمفهوم والشكل.
تقدم هذه النماذج الأولية للمشاريع لمحات من الأمل لمستقبل المياه. يقترحون أنه يمكننا بناء عوالم لأنفسنا والأنواع الأخرى من خلال النظر بشكل نقدي في الأنظمة التي نتشارك بها واقتراح لحظات وعمليات وأفكار تعمل على تحسين هذه الظروف. كما وقدمت الفن كترياق للوضع الراهن لحقائقنا البيئية وتوليد انقسامات طفيفة مهمة في الوعي الثقافي حول الموارد الطبيعية.
